About the event
Farewell to Heritage
Since 1986, the New Orleans Heritage Jazz Band has been delighting audiences and jazz lovers with its foot tapping driving music played in the free-flowing, pulsating, revivalist New Orleans style of that famous city. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and this gig will be their last hurrah.
The band was originally formed for the Jazz Club of WA as its house band with a view to backing guest musicians and singers. Don Bancroft (trumpet) and Dave Cowie (piano) assembled the band from members of popular jazz band like The Storyville Jazz Band and The Cornerhouse Jazz Band.
The band’s policy was simple: “we all play, or we don’t play!” Hence Heritage has had the same rhythm section since its inception. Front line members have changed over the years and for this final performance, the band will consist of Robbie Bresland (trumpet), Bob Benton (trombone), Murray Kent (reeds), Dave Cowie (piano), Rod Evans (banjo), John Healy (double bass and vocals) and Nige Ridgway (drums and vocals).
Don’t miss this opportunity to say farewell on Tuesday 25th June to a wonderful band, which has
contributed so much to the traditional jazz art form in Perth over the last 38 years.
