Tribute to Dave Cowie

Dave Cowie has been playing at the Jazz Club of WA since the 1980s. He has a history going back to the UK trad revival days, including having played with Acker Bilk. Tonight we pay tribute to this amazing Perth musician. Martin Jones has assembled a bunch of musicians that Dave has played with to represent three of his past bands. All told there will be fourteen musicians playing across the three lineups; it was a bit of a challenge to round them up as so many have passed or retired, but a good variety of players keen to honour Dave for sure. This is not to be missed.

• The first set will represent the Storyville band that Dave played in, and that, among other things, backed US gospel singers. The lineup will include pianist Ali McKenzie, whom Dave has recently inspired.

• The second set will use a tuba, representing the Stevedores, which is when Martin started playing with Dave.

• The third set will represent Doctor Jazz, of which Dave was a founder member and which features Tristan, another jazzer that Dave has helped so much.

It will be a great evening.
